About Us

At Shepherd Primary School, we have an excellent team of dedicated and talented people at the heart of our school who constantly strive to move the school forwards.

We place great value on the development of a strong partnership between children, staff, parents, governors and the wider community, which enables our school to be a caring, safe and motivating place to learn.

We are firmly committed to developing this crucial partnership which can only help to further raise standards across the school.
Central to our vision for this school is to ensure the five outcomes of ’Every Child Matters’ are achieved by each child, i.e. be healthy, stay safe, enjoy and achieve, make a positive contribution and achieve economic well being. We believe at Shepherd Primary School that each child is unique and should be at the centre of everything we do.

Our Mission Statement

Our school community is committed to providing education of the highest quality that supports, challenges and inspires all children to achieve confidently within a happy and safe environment.

We strive to provide an all round education for all of our pupils.

Playing FieldsShepherd Primary School is a well-established, community primary school with approximately 300 pupils aged 3-11 on roll. A few years ago, we had 8 new classrooms and four group rooms built and in September 2013, we became a two form entry school. The school is conveniently located in a most attractive open and green setting with mature grounds and gardens located adjacent to a large park.

The QuadA landscaped quadrangle forms the centrepiece of the school, which children, staff and the PTA make use of throughout the year. For our Early Years children, the quadrangle is a stimulating and safe outside learning and play area.

Reception and Library AreaThe school benefits from extensive playing fields, two separate playgrounds, high levels of security, including 15 CCTV cameras outside which are monitored 24 hours a day, and coded door entry systems on all main exterior doors.

ICT SuiteIn addition to a well-equipped Early Years setting and spacious classroom environments, the school offers 3 wireless laptop trolleys holding 60 laptops for use in the classrooms. We also have 16 kindles, 40 ipads and 8 ipod touches which the children use on a daily basis to support their learning in the classroom.

Children also have the opportunity to use ICT equipment such as BeeBots, Lego WeDo, Wii, Quizdom, DigiBlu cameras and dataloggers.

Design and Technology RoomThe school has a well resourced Special Educational Needs room, a comfortable and vibrant library situated in our spacious welcome area, music room and a fully equipped Design and Technology classroom area. We also have additional teaching areas including a Meeting Room for staff which doubles up as an additional classroom environment.

Meeting RoomOur additional environments are used throughout the day to support small groups of children who require additional Learning Support through intervention strategies. These children may include the more able and those with special educational needs.

Nursery SettingTeaching assistants are a valuable resource in our school and every class has their own assistant from Nursery up to Year 6.

Dining RoomSchool HallThe school has a large hall, separate dining room, and a number of offices within the same building.

The school provides a stimulating and rich learning environment, in which children engage in a broad curriculum and celebrate their achievements within a positive atmosphere. To enhance our children’s learning opportunities, we also offer an extensive range of lunchtime and after school clubs, run by teachers and teaching assistants.

toysWe have a 3 and 4 year old morning nursery class which is well integrated into the Early Years setting. Nursery children make full use of our secure outside space.

Children's CentreAdjoining the school is Rickmansworth Children’s Centre which is staffed by a Children’s Centre Manager, an administrative assistant, 2 Outreach workers and a playworker. Parents of children aged 0-5 are encouraged to visit the Children’s Centre which has a separate entrance, to find out about and engage in a wide programme of family activities and services.
