Nursery Lambs

 Learning in Nursery Lambs for Autumn Term 

Topics will change on a regular basis. The setting will reflect these topics. We will write weekly updates on the boards next to the entrance. We will start the term with the topic of Journeys (including transport) and Festivals.

    • Personal, Social and Emotional Development: Children have many opportunities to play collaboratively in a variety of ways. We encourage children to ask for help when needed and to share their ideas, views, preferences and interests with increasing confidence. We will continue to promote the expectations and boundaries of the setting, such as looking after and tidying resources and developing sharing and turn-taking skills, through the use of descriptive praise and the modelling of language.
    • Communication & Language: We will continue to promote speaking and listening skills through modelling and supporting children at play. To support your child at home we send home Firm Foundations Packs which support early Literacy and Language skills. These will come home on a FRIDAY and must be returned by a WEDNESDAY. Please do let us know if there is anything missing from the pack. Thank you.
    • Maths: In Nursery we will focus on counting objects, recognising numbers and reciting the numbers from zero to ten (and beyond where appropriate). To support your child at home, count everything! E.g. Pegging out the socks, counting raisins, counting stairs etc. You can also have fun looking at and talking about numerals that you see in the environment, such as on cereal boxes, buses and front doors. We will also continue to work on ordering by size and comparing weight and length; using shapes appropriately for tasks (and describing the shapes); comparing quantities; recording numbers in a variety of ways (pictures, tallies, numerals, marks) and finding one less though number songs and rhymes.  
    • Literacy: Children will be given the opportunity to change their library book each day. We hope that you enjoy reading daily with your child to support their literacy development. You can encourage your child to talk about the pictures, join in with words and phrases in the story, make predictions about what might happen next and to talk about the parts of the story they most enjoyed. Children will take part in interactive and fun phonic sessions each week. We will focus on sound discrimination, alliteration, oral blending and rhyme. Children will be encouraged to write for a purpose wherever possible such as lists, posters, maps, letters, cards, price tags etc. Once children see that there is a purpose for writing, they are more motivated to do it! Role play often lends itself very well to this.
    • P.E: We will be focusing on getting changed with increasing independence, spatial awareness and exercises leading to dance. Children take part in a Dough Disco once a week and Busy Fingers three times a week to develop fine motor control. We promote healthy living through ongoing discussions at the snack table and during play.

 Weekly Routines

    • Show & Tell Bags – Each week different children are sent home with a Show and Tell Bag.  Please return the bag with something in that your child would like to show the class/talk about. The bag needs to come back by Friday so that it can be sent out again. Thank you. 
    • Stanley and Ruby – Our gorgeous class bears will be sent home with two lucky children each Friday. Please return them by the following Wednesday. Thank you!
    • Library – children now have the opportunity to change their library book each day.
    • Family Morning every FRIDAY morning until 9.15am. Please stay and share a book with your child. All siblings welcome.
    • Our 
    • weekly PE sessions are now on a FRIDAY in the hall and therefore your child must have their PE bags with PE kit – shorts and t-shirt – at all times. Your child will also have access to the outside classroom at all times therefore please ensure they have appropriate clothes and footwear every day. In sunny weather, please make sure you apply sun cream before Nursery and please provide a named sun hat.
