Ryeland Sheep

Welcome to Shepherd Primary School Reception. We are really looking forward to getting to know you and your child and helping them to continue their learning journey.

Learning in Reception for the Summer Term

  • Phonics and Literacy: Understanding the World
Be able to talk about things they like and don’t like, accepting that not everyone likes the same things.
Watch as living things change as they grow using the tadpoles as an animal example and growing plants to see how they change from a seed into a fully grown plant.
  • Communication and Language
Be able to answer ‘how’ and ‘why’ questions when talking about events that have happened in real life and in books. Use the correct tense when talking about things in the past, present and future.
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
Being able to identify and talk about their feelings in different situations.
  • Physical Development
Learn about healthy eating and exercise – be able to sort food into healthy and un-healthy options. Try new foods and be able to say if they like them or not.
  • Expressive Arts and Design
Learn how to mix different colours when using paint and to think about the colours they use for different objects.
Find out how to make their own books using different methods to join them and making them into different shapes.
