Welcome to Shepherd Primary School Reception. We are really looking forward to getting to know you and your child and helping them to continue their learning journey.

Learning in Reception for the Spring Term

  • Our learning focus will change on a regular basis, following the interests of the children. The children have already planned their role play area for this half term, a car sales shop and repair garage, and they have been very busy creating resources to use in this area. We will be thinking about growth mindsets and making ‘fantastic mistakes’ this half term and will be looking
at the books ‘The Dot’ and ‘My beautiful Oops.’
  • Communication & Language & Literacy: We will continue to teach phonics daily and children will be taught in smaller groups. We will continue to hear the children read on a bi-weekly basis but will also commence guided reading sessions. Please continue to hear your children read at home as often as possible.
  • Maths: We will continue to focus on a number of the week and will be learning about 2D and 3D shapes and their properties.
  • Understanding the World: We will be looking at the globe, maps and hot and cold places this half term. There will also be a focus on countries we have a relationship with and children’s countries of origin. If you would like to share any information about another country your family is associated with, please let us know.
  •

Weekly Routines

  • Show & Tell – Children will bring a show and tell bag home on a MONDAY to fill and bring in on FRIDAYS
  • Library – Each week the children will have the opportunity to choose a library book which they can take home and keep for the week – FRIDAYS
  • Family Reading Morning every FRIDAY morning until 9.15am. Please stay and share a book or a game with your child. All siblings welcome
  • Our weekly PE sessions will  be on a MONDAY in the hall and therefore your child must have either a pair of named plimsolls or trainers kept in their PE bags along with full school PE kit, at all times. Your child will also have access to the outside classroom at all times therefore please ensure they have warm clothes and appropriate footwear every day
